The contact owns a 1995 Dodge pickup. The rear drum brakes do not adjust properly. The front brakes do the majority of the braking and causes the front brakes to overheat and be overused. The rear brakes have to be manually adjusted. The contact refuses to take the vehicle to the dealer. The current mileage was 300,000 and failure mileage was 103,000. Updated 11/14/07. This vehicle experienced the problem as described in the brake drum and shoe system recall 97v068000, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *Ak this problem occured more when the vehicle is in reverse gear and on an incline to the rear (like backing down a boat ramp). : The contact stated the vehicle does not stop correctly or safely. The dealership determined this was because the vacuum motor does not have the proper check valve. The brake pedal becomes very hard and lacks power assist, increasing the stopping distance. The brake light illuminated on the dash each time this occurred.
