In owners' own words
Speedometer head failure produces erratic display for prolonged periods. This is the second failure of this unit - first at approximately 60k, second at 116k. Ford refuses to acknowledge defect - local Ford agency parts manager affirms that this part is a common failure. Ford refuses to negoitiate even a partial reimbursement. This failure is attributable to a manufacturing defect and is not due to normal wear. Power train
Transmission disengages/slips when vehicle comes to a stop, like when trying to merge into traffic. Transmission jumps into gear abruptly after excellerator pedal is pressed hard. This failure caused a traffic accident and injury with this owner when trying to merge onto a highway. This complaint is being repeated over and over on this web site. How many people must be injured before action is taken? Power train
Speedometer pointer jumps around, giving unreliable and false speed indications. Assembly also makes squeeking noises. Ford service bulletin # 99-7-9 recomends replacement; failure caused by improper oiling during assembly. Ford/dealer no help. Dealer indicates there "may" be a manufacturing problem. This is second speedometer to fail in the car. First at 25000 miles, this one started about 36000. Power train
