Reading the numbers
Across the 8 model years of the Chevrolet Avalanche in this data, 2013 draws comparatively few complaints; 2002 is the outlier year.
Filings have fallen off, 3 in the last three years against 26 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 57,000 miles.
In owners' own words
The dash is cracked at multiple places including up to the airbag. I was told by the people who repairs windshield that this is a know problem for Avalanche, silverado suburban. This is clearly a manufacturer defect and should be a recall they are quoting me a $1497 repair fee to replace the dash at the dealer. I contacted Chevrolet for assistance. They offered a $130 good will.... Air bags · reported at 88,000 miles
I'm not exactly sure when it started, but it was fine this summer (I estimated 11/10/18 below). The dashboard has cracked in two spots - drivers side near instrument panel hump, and passenger side near airbag. The cracks are continuing to get larger and the dashboard has stated to vibrate and rattle. I am concerned about a safety hazard in an accident. Air bags · reported at 69,000 miles
My dash board has cracks and I am concerned that should the air bag go off in an accident the cracked dash may cause injury beyond normal. It has been noted that there are numerous complaints on the internet about this issue. I call to complain on the official gm hotline and was dismissed by the interviewer. Air bags
