The dashboard is cracking and melting--it has affected the gps and I am afraid other instruments may be affected as well-- the melting causes a terrible glare in the windshield making driving it safely ialmost impossible--this is a one owner-well maintained auto--I contacted the dealer and was told this is a relatively common problem with '04 solaras and a repair was offered for about $3,000. The dash in the car has extremely long large cracks in it. All over it including around the information bezels. This problem seems to be a common manufacturing defect. It had been talked about and commented on Toyota forums that it is a common problem and also includes other vehicles manufactured by Toyota . The response from Toyota is "too bad". The contact owns a 2004 Toyota solara. The contact observed when the vehicle was parked; the entire length of the dashboard sustained multiple hairline cracks. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The vehicle was not covered under the service warranty. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 12,500.
