Reading the numbers
Across the 19 model years of the Chevrolet Silverado in this data, 1994 sits 12th by complaint volume. 1999 draws the most.
Filings have fallen off, 4 in the last three years against 9 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 121,500 miles.
In owners' own words
While driving in rainy conditions and without warning the windshield wipers will just quit. Consumer feels that this is a safety concern because when this happens driver can't see where he is going. To get them going again driver has lift the hood, jiggle on the motor wires to the wipers, and then they will go again. Dealer said they knew about the problem, but there was no recall on the consumers vehicle. Visibility
Windshield wipers were working intermittently. Sometimes windshield wipers would come on, and sometimes they would not. If switch was lifted on for a few days windshield wipers would come on. Problem has been corrected at owner's expense. Windshield wiper motor circuit broad and cover was replaced, which was the same correct action as in recall campaign 98v150001. Truck not included in recall. Visibility
Windshield wipers fail randomly. Tapping on the wiper motor restarts them. This is very dangerous. Dealer says this is not covered by recall 98v1500001 even though it sounds the same. I counted 44 complaints for the 1500 series trucks on the nhtsa web page. I personally know two other owners of the same make and model truck who have the problem. A safety recall should be issued.
