Reading the numbers
Filings are rising — 309 in the last three years against 94 in the three before. For a vehicle this age that usually points to a wear-related failure owners are hitting now.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 32,500 miles.
In owners' own words
While cruising on the freeway at approximately 70 miles per hour with no vehicles or objects ahead. The vehicle suddenly made a loud warning sound and flashed a message on the dash. The emergency brakes were automatically applied and nearly stopped in the middle of the freeway. The car behind had to swerve to avoid a collision. The vehicle then resumed driving forward. I was using the adaptive cruise control. Electrical system
Vehicle had one warning light about tire pressure. Tire pressure tested fine. Began to drive. 30 minutes later every light on the dash lit up and vehicle stopped in an intersection and almost caused multiple accidents. Vehicle was finally towed by police and after a month in the shop they said it was a dead battery. But it died while the vehicle was driving and alternator should have been charging it. Electrical system
Vehicle shut-off while driving. Electrical failure due to voltage issue with hybrid (eTorque) system. Los off power while driving vehicle on roadway with potential loss of control. Vehicle taken to dealership and diagnosed with failure of hybrid battery. During my ownership of the vehicle I've had to replace the primary battery 3 times due to ongoing electrical problems with this engine. Electrical system
