Reading the numbers
Across the 19 model years of the Toyota Sienna in this data, 2009 sits 11th by complaint volume. 2004 draws the most.
Filings have fallen off, 13 in the last three years against 18 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 80,000 miles.
In owners' own words
The children lifted back lift gate to put school books into the van and the gate fell on one of them. This has happened to several others since then. A Toyota rep said he has the same vehicle and said he uses a hockey stick to prop open the gate. We tried that for a while but it sometimes fails. We had it replaced (not by Toyota) in august of 2013 and it continues to fail as soon as the weather gets cold. Structure · reported at 90,000 miles
The sliding back door was being closed from the power button near the drivers seat. The door wouldn't close so the button was pressed again. The door then slammed shut with great force and could have injured anyone in it's way. Now it is inoperable and needs a very expensive repair. Apparently this is an ongoing problem with this generation of the Toyota Sienna vans and Toyota refuses to address it. Structure · reported at 47,000 miles
Passenger sliding door won't close with both power motor and manually. It's stuck open. I called Toyota corporate offices to get assistance and they stated that the warranty enhancement just expired 1 month ago. Do not know how to get the van door unstuck. It just happened today, or I would've called 1 month ago. Very frustrated, cannot drive vehicle. It happened in my driveway, vehicle was stationary. Structure · reported at 119,000 miles
