The transmission in this vehicle is defective. Their should be a recall on this model which is a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The problem is costing all of fords customers alot of money average cost is 2600 dollars. They know about this problem and will not help even with some of the repair cost. Transmission slipped between 2nd and 3rd gears,and between 3rd and 4th. Rpm raced high. Od light would flash, check engine light came on. Rpm's would race high, but the vehicle would not move, then suddenly catch. Transmission had to be rebuilt with only 56k miles. Two weeks in the shop, $600. Repair bill. Problems with vehicle's transmission at various speeds. *Mr the engine remained slipping, jumping, and making noises, the rear window did not hold and fell on the consumers head, the steering column locks, the fuel engine read empty and the light was on, the interior coat hooks had come out of the walls, and the transmission was jumping, clunking, and slipping. *Sc dup of 10022342_pco Power train · reported at 883 miles
