Reading the numbers

Across the 8 model years of the Chevrolet Venture in this data, 2000 sits 4th by complaint volume. 1997 draws the most.

Filings have fallen off, 8 in the last three years against 12 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.

The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 70,000 miles.

In owners' own words

We purchased this van from a local dealer about 5 months ago. It had just 40,000 miles on it. Since then we have had the oil changed twice and in between oil changes we have had to add over 6 quarts of oil. At 600 miles we had put in 2 quarts of oil. There is no sign of leaking and no sign of smoke from the exhaust. We purchased an extended warranty and will be taking it to the dealer, hopefully, next week. The manifold gasket has been leaking intermittently since the vehicle was new. We have returned it to the dealer for service and we were told that no problem existed. I have a friend who has had the same problem with his 2000 montano and ending up replacing the manifold gasket at great expense. My Venture has 55,000 miles on it and this is far to soon in it's life for major repairs like this. Engine and engine cooling · reported at 25,000 miles
We are experiencing failure of the intake manifold gasket at about 42000 miles. This is a known problem by Chevrolet and thousands upon thousands of people are having this issue. This is a potentially catastrophic failure, as it can lead to severe engine damage by coolant mixing with engine oil. *Ak Chevrolet is charging upwards of $1000 for repairs for this known design problem.
