Reading the numbers
Across the 5 model years of the Plymouth Neon in this data, 1995 draws the most complaints of any of them.
Filings have fallen off, 6 in the last three years against 12 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 85,000 miles.
In owners' own words
The head gasket failed causing $1269.00 In repairs. Was told by local mechanic and by a chrysler dealership mechanic that this is a known problem with chrysler head gaskets and that there was a secret warranty. Chrysler denies that there is a problem with the head gaskets and that there isn't a secret warrant, and that since my vechile has over 100,000 miles, the secret warrant that doesn't exist doesn't apply. Gaskets replaced 2/26/99 after problem was identified during service performed on 12/28/98. Oil leaks continue and appears to have worsened. Vehicle will be taken back to dealership in an effort to remedy situation. Was advised that gasket failure was common and parts were on back order for 2 months prior to repair and that chrysler may issue recall of vehicles for same problem Engine and engine cooling
My car overheated about two weeks prior. Took it in to a mechanic but they couldn't identify a problem so they thought it was low on coolant. Then, my car overheated again, started idling rough, and proceeded to pour smoke out back. You could smell the coolant burning. I understand this is a problem on all neons pre-99, yet chrysler and dodge refuse to recall the cars. Engine and engine cooling
