Reading the numbers
Across the 5 model years of the Mercedes Benz E320 in this data, 1995 draws comparatively few complaints; 2005 is the outlier year.
Filings have fallen off, 9 in the last three years against 21 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 102,000 miles.
In owners' own words
The wiring harness for the engine has failed. The insulation has disintegrated and the wires are arcing, shorting and corroding. This causes intermittent stalling of the engine and an unsafe condition. I understand this is a typical failure of this vehicle. It is odd, I am unfamiliar with any vehicle that requires periodic replacement of the wiring harnesses, ordinarily these last longer than the vehicle. Electrical system · reported at 200,000 miles
Wiring harness on 1995 mercedes E320 fails and causes car to stop while driving down busy city streets. Wiring insulation is completely cracked and causing a shorting situation. This is a known problem since I have contacted over ten people personally that have had the same problem. There are hundreds on the net. How bad does this have to get before mercedes does something to fix it? Electrical system · reported at 135,000 miles
