Reading the numbers

Filings are rising — 424 in the last three years against 55 in the three before. For a vehicle this age that usually points to a wear-related failure owners are hitting now.

The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 23,209 miles.

In owners' own words

Description of the issue: While driving, the steering wheel suddenly develops a significantly increased resistance. This resistance can only be overcome by applying noticeably higher force. The steering feels as if it is “sticking” or momentarily binding. Driving conditions where the issue occurs: - Frequently on highways - Also on rural roads - Occurs both while cornering and while driving straight ahead Steering
My vehicle has already had recall remedy for 24V-022, still experiencing "notchy" steering (momentary increase in steering effort). Mid corner the steering wheel locks into place, I can let my hands off the wheel and the steering wheel maintains the steering angle, I have to forcibly move it out of the lock to either increase or decrease turning radius. This is a recurring issue every time I drive the vehicle. Steering
Steering randomly gets stuck in a ‘notch’ on sweeping left hand turns and needs to be forced back to centre with a lot of effort. Mazda dealer has dismissed the issue on 3 separate occasions as they cannot replicate on the very short test drive they take it on near the shop despite asking them to take it on a longer test. I do not feel confident or safe driving the car on the highway due to this defect. Steering
