In owners' own words

Starting about a month ago when I put my car in park and then turn my vehicle off a 'shift to park' warning comes on and the car will not turn off. The car is in park and I have to shift to a different gear and back to park trying to get it to register it is in park. Sometimes it takes multiple times of trying this before it will recognize it. My vehicle is past the 36,000 miles with about 42,000 miles. Power train · reported at 42,000 miles

The contact depressed the accelerator pedal however, the vehicle failed to respond. The parking brake warning light illuminated. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Power train · reported at 65,000 miles
When parking the vehicle, after shifting to park, the dashboard displays a warning shift to park and will not allow the vehicle to be shut off. The vehicle was stationary on a city street, in our driveway, and also in a parking lot. This prevented me from exiting the vehicle for about 10 minutes each time, will I continued to restart the car, shift from park to another gear and then reshift into park.
