Reading the numbers
Across the 12 model years of the Mazda Mazda6 in this data, 2009 draws the most complaints of any of them.
Filings have fallen off, 32 in the last three years against 49 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 91,000 miles.
In owners' own words
This past week, while driving my vehicle to and from work on a public roadway, the steering wheel was off-center and the vehicle started to shift to the side of the road while vehicle was in motion while driving straight. I took it to an auto repair shop and they told me the sub frame is completely split in half and all corroded. The vehicle is undriveable right now. It's going to be very expensive to repair. I see several complaints about a melting dashboard. The dashboard, especially on the passenger side has a softish material that almost melts when parked in outdoor under sun even for few minutes. In such a condition if I touch this part of dashboard it crumbles into pieces. It is almost impossible to always park under roof and this material used seems to be of very low quality. Cost of fixing is unknown. Structure · reported at 53,000 miles
The vehicle was purchased by me and given to my son to drive a year ago. The vehicle has about 120,000 miles and run perfectly except it won't pass a state inspection because the inspector says the subframe under the engine is so badly rusted, the engine could easily drop out from under the car while in operation. This is a safety hazard and were told Mazda is ignoring the issue. Structure · reported at 120,000 miles
