This is now the 3rd occassion of apparent transmission surges while driving at freeway speed. After pressing the accelerator while passing another car, the engine rpm shot up to 9000, while to car failed to accelerate causing a near collision. The prior 2 occurences were while driving at 40-50mph, the car suddenly downshifts with a grinding noise and a clunk from the engine compartment. Power train · reported at 8,228 miles
Strong smell of burning oil in passenger compartment after driving 20 miles, or so, and coming to a stop. Transfer case replaced twice under warranty and problem persists. Power train · reported at 5,000 miles
The contact owns a 2003 Jaguar X-Type. While driving at approximately 70 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle decelerated and the gear box fault cruise unavailable and the check engine warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 182,000.
