Defective fuel pump started leaking as described in nhtsa action number pe09039. The consumer believed the leak was due to a defective fuel pump part, that developed cracks because the vehicle was in a location with extreme climates and temperature cycling as described in recall 09v483000. I am the original owner of a 2001 Volvo S60; noted a strong gasoline odor in the garage and at the right side of the vehicle (noted during extreme summer weather in south). Car was taken to Volvo certified repairshop and was noted to have a leak at the fuel pump. The pump needed to be replaced- total expense of $810.00. The contact owns a 2001 Volvo S60. Whenever the contact attempts to drive his vehicle, he smells gasoline outside of the vehicle. The smell is also in the passenger compartment, but is not as strong.
