Reading the numbers
Across the 3 model years of the Mazda MPV in this data, 2000 draws the most complaints of any of them.
Filings have fallen off, 5 in the last three years against 7 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 75,000 miles.
In owners' own words
Defective part. Exhaust manifold failed and is out of warranty. Dealer would not cover repair cost due to being out of warranty. This type of part should not have failed in three years no matter what the milage is. It caused driver (ME) to breath exhaust fumes and I became light headed and sick. Weather was too cold to drive with windows open. Manufacturer should cover the cost of this repair. Engine and engine cooling · reported at 85,000 miles
Van started running rough at stoplights and at low speed. Check engine light came on a day later. Mechanic told us that the left exhaust manifold was cracked and needed to be replaced. This failure causes a co leak into the passenger cabin. Mechanic said this should not happen on an engine with 83,000 miles. Engine and engine cooling · reported at 83,000 miles
While driving on the freeway the van suddenly lost power to the wheels, even though the engine was still running. Had it towed to a Mazda dealer who reported that the thrust bearing in the crankshaft had broken. The entire engine had to be replaced. Engine and engine cooling
