Reading the numbers
Across the 23 model years of the Ford Expedition in this data, 2000 ranks 2nd by complaint volume — 1999 draws the most.
Filings have fallen off, 4 in the last three years against 17 in the three before. That is normal as a generation leaves the road.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 95,000 miles.
In owners' own words
Recurrent issue with my 2000 Ford Expedition. When it rains, the electrical system shorts out, causing the battery to drain, making it undriveable. Various electrical components go on and off without the key in the ignition, and some go out while driving. Extremely dangerous for windshield wipers to fail during a rainstorm!!! Sometimes, there is a burning smell coming from below the steering wheel. Electrical system · reported at 140,000 miles
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Expedition xlt. The contact was traveling 35 mph when smoke was seen coming from the vents and near the accelerator. The contact pulled over in a nearby parking lot and exited the vehicle. The vehicle then burst into flames. There were no injuries. A police and fire report were filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage yard. The failure mileage was 100,000. Electrical system · reported at 100,000 miles
My husband bought me a 2000 Expedition 9/15/2007, on 10/26/2007 after a rain, the electrical system went crazy. When I open the door, the radio was on and the chirp like I had a key in the ignition, not only to say, I just replace the battery this morning. The blower motor will not cut off even though the key is out. And the radio will turn off when I put the car in drive or reverse. Electrical system
