Had spark plugs replaced. One plug exploded. Was told by ford dealership service mechanic the intake manifold was cracked. Car was running fine before plugs were replaced. Intake manifold is plastic. (This was an issue with the 1997 model.) Did the repairman crack the manifold? Why is replacement part still plastic? Ford/Mercury price for part is $598.06; Napa is $281.00. Cracked the air intake on my 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. It was made out of cheap plastic. I had to step on the throttle to get out of the way, and my car started steaming. Come to find out, the intake manifold cracked. It's only $300 for the part, not including labor. Engine and engine cooling · reported at 120,000 miles
